Summer Camps
Thanks to the generous support of local funder The Grove Trust , we were able to deliver three free holiday programmes over the Summer, which were attended by 67 of our students, 60% of whom were eligible for Free School Meals.
Teachers took time out of their own holidays to deliver programmes in Performing Arts, English Language (for students new to English) and Wellbeing.
The aim of the Performing Arts Camp was to provide new students coming into Year 7 the opportunity to experience dance, drama and music at KAA. There was high demand for the camp, with 32 girls and boys attending.
In each session students worked on a specific number from the show ‘Oliver!’ and the week ended with a mini performance of excerpts from the show.
The Wellbeing Camp had a great turn out by some of the most vulnerable students at the school including School Within School students, who are identified as at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education.
All of the students knew at least one staff member very well and these relationships were pivotal to the positive gains made by students during the two days.
Group and one-to-one catch-ups enabled students to share and reflect on how the year had been both at school and at home, particularly in light of the disruption and challenges of the pandemic.
The remainder of the camp saw the students participating in arts & crafts, sports, lyric-writing, drama-based games, a movie afternoon and a session on street culture/safety and relationships, with all the students highly proactive and engaged, and often overrunning due to the high level of engagement!
“Thank you so much for allowing us to run this Wellbeing Camp ... It proved to be a really enjoyable and worthwhile couple of days, reaching some of our most vulnerable pupils and such a wide range of pupils again. It was such a lovely atmosphere throughout the programme with no behavioural issues whatsoever.
Louis, Head of School Within School
We are looking forward to hosting a further Wellbeing camp in the October half-term, with plenty of fun and nurturing activities planned!
